BUSINESS AND TECHNOLOGY LEADER

 

Asmau thrives on identifying and growing businesses that have the power to transform the way everyday people do everyday things. She has led corporate strategy and digital innovation for established and emergent organizations in a number of industries including financial services, technology and consumer retail.  

Asmau is presently a MD/SVP of Business and Technology at Bank of America where she oversees an “Industry Program” (chaired by the CTO of Bank of America). The program is in response to a 2018 request from the CEOs of Bank of America, Citi, JPMC, BNYM, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, State Street, and Morgan Stanley - collective known as the GSIBs, to identify and execute solutions to common industry-wide challenges.

Asmau also served as a Digital Leader at Capital One, running Enterprise Money Movement and Consumer profiling strategies and products. Prior to that, she served clients in the Financial Services industry as a Management Consultant with Deloitte. At Deloitte, she also co-led Rapid-IP, an internal think tank for innovation.  In that role, she proposed and led the research and development of thought pieces for use in client pursuits, resulting in multiple wins for the company. 

Asmau has also served as the CEO of a venture funded technology company, Plum Perfect, a groundbreaking visual search and advertising startup she nurtured from an idea to a recognized brand embraced by top retailers, major brands, and millions of consumers globally. 

She is a frequent speaker and sought-after advisor on the topics of: innovation, entrepreneurism, product/technology, funding and diversity in business and technology. Her most recent speaking engagements include Women@Forbes Under 30, Amazon re:Invent, and Women in Product. Her accomplishments have also been featured in industry and mainstream publications such as WSJ, ABC News, Good Morning America, NPR, Glamour, Huffington Post, InStyle, Parade, and Yahoo! 

Asmau has been recognized as one of five "Top Women in Digital" by Cynopsis Media; one of seven “Black Business and Tech Professionals Who Are Changing the Game" by Huffington Post; and one of “28 Black Founders and Investors Making an Impact in Tech” by PitchBook.  

Asmau holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BS with Honors in Chemical Engineering from the University of Virginia. Raised in West Africa, an avid traveler from a young age, and based in NY, Asmau sees life from a global perspective. She is passionate about family, health and wellness.  When she isn't working, you can find her running along Riverside Park, spending time with her two children, and volunteering time helping minority founders navigate product innovation and the financing of their businesses. Her most recent passion project, inspired by her son, involves finding solutions for ending segregation of special needs children in our education system.
